Who we are
Shepherds of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and sponsoring children and young people in need, both locally and globally. Our mission is rooted in compassion, faith, and a deep commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities through education, care, and opportunity.
Based in Iowa, USA, Shepherds of Hope serves communities locally while extending its reach to Uganda, Africa—where one of our founders, Joshua Atuhairwe, was born and raised. This unique connection allows us to work closely with trusted local partners and families, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most.
Shepherds of Hope grew out of more than a decade of personal service. Long before the organization was formally established, Joshua and Andrea devoted their time and personal resources to helping children and young adults access education, basic necessities, and hope for a better future. What began as a personal calling has now become a shared mission.
The heart of Shepherds of Hope is deeply personal. Uganda and witnessed firsthand the challenges many children face due to poverty, limited access to education, and lack of basic resources. Alongside his wife, For more than ten years, they have quietly served children and young adults using their own time and resources—believing that even small acts of kindness can change a life.
